How the archive works

01

One number per record

Every record enters the archive with a catalogue number — MCH-00001, MCH-00002 — and keeps it for good. Numbers are never reused. A record sold exclusively stays in the archive, stamped SOLD.

The cover is the record

Covers are not decoration. Each one is drawn by one rule from the record’s own data. The series gives the colours and the kind of mark; the record’s tempo and key shape it. No two records share a cover.

Eleven marks

Every series draws one of eleven marks. Here each one is shown on the cover of a series that uses it.

04

A hundred series

Every style has its own series and a two-letter code: ID is Iron Decade, seventies classic rock; BU is Blue Notebook, vocal jazz. Each series is also a YouTube channel.

05

Recorded instruments

Records are played with recorded instruments — guitars, basses, drum kits, pianos, strings, horns — through amplifier models and recorded rooms.
